Thermal Management of EV Battery Pack

This work attempts to brief several current solutions for the thermal management of E.V. battery packs then design, analyze, and simulate forced convection-based immersive cooling/heating system utilizing pressurized air. The battery pack configuration is developed using 21700-type lithium-ion battery cells. Preliminary estimates provide the amount of heat generation from the battery pack and probable temperature gradients. Theoretical analysis of heating requirements in extreme cold weather conditions is discussed to determine the power ratings of a resistive heater. A concise evaluation of the refrigeration cycle provides estimates of the type of refrigerant and required refrigerant mass flow rates. ANSYS Fluent thermal simulation results provide an in-depth assessment of thermal, velocity, and pressure profiles within the battery pack aligning with the theoretical results.

A summary of a vital theorem given by Nobel physics laureate Felix Bloch, a student of Werner Heisenberg. It includes periodic boundary conditions applied to the Time Independent Schrödinger Equation.
